About the Author
Behzad Mohit is a multi-faceted physician and author of books, articles, and essays in cell biology, biochemistry, health care economics, poetry, music, and evolution. He is a graduate of the State University of New York medical school with eleven years of postgraduate studies in universities and research institutes including Mallory Institute of Pathology (Harvard, Boston University, Tufts), Brandeis Graduate Department of Biochemistry, the National Institutes of Health, and the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. His original research at Brandeis, NIH, and the UCSF biochemistry department has been published in prestigious journals including Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, British Journal of Bacteriology and others. Numerous scientists have quoted his work in immunology, bacteriology, and other fields.

A leap beyond ObamaCare

If you think that the Affordable Care Act is a step in the right direction for health care reform, you should read this book! Dr. Mohit's plan is a leap forward, providing a practical, workable solution to the problems inherent in our for-profit health care system without demonizing the free market. This is not socialized medicine, it is socially responsible medicine. It is medicine the way it should be practiced - with doctors beholden to patients, not profits. Dr. Mohit's National Nonprofit Cooperative, is a universal, non-profit, non-governmental, people funded and people managed health care "co-op" that will eliminate fraud, solve the problem of "overutilization" (where profit incentivizes doctors to prescribe too much care) and "underutilization" (where doctors are incentivized to provide less care in order to increase partner bonuses), and abate the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on everything from medical education to the FDA.
Even if you don't find Dr. Mohit's solution workable, you should read the book. His writing is clear and his anecdotes will motivate you to get a second - and even third - opinion before consenting to any procedures under our current for-profit health care system.
The book is also a fast and easy read, beginning with a brief but informative discussion of our current health care system, followed by Dr. Mohit's proposed solution, and ending with an overview of the health care systems in China, Canada, Germany, France, and the U.K. There are some sections that could have benefitted from lengthier discussion (the section on malpractice claims, for example), and I would have enjoyed a deeper analysis of the Affordable Care Act, but what the book lacks in length it more than makes up for in substance.

Great book

Please read this book! I gave it 3 stars in comparison to the 1 star I would give to most books written about health care.
The author surely has the best plan in print. Newt Gingrich in SAVING LIVES % SAVING MONEY (2003) would also rate 3 stars.
Obviously, few people read such books, and fewer have any interest in saving lives and saving money. Politicians push plans the multiply federal control and federal bureaucrats, and anything else doesn't even get a mention in the media.
I would give 5 stars to a plan that promotes face to face, caring relationship with patient and doctor, with no government or medical organization telling them what they must do, no numbered diagnoses, and freedom of information for real informed consent to any treatment, and recognition that older cheap therapies are often the best, and that much of our illness is due to bad food and bad government information about food.
This book fails to include most of that.
Mohit claims a basic right to "health." Impossible! Health does not respond to legislation. I could wish for a basic right to health information truth. He sometimes calls it "health care," which better conveys what he means, but neither can "care" be legislated. He could rationally argue for a basic right to "health service" which is what our health systems offer. The service can be good, or it can kill, but no way can it be "care."
Unfortunately, the industry-controlled political system will not allow attention to Mohit's plan, any more than they did to Gingrich, or to my book, HONEST NUTRITION.
But please, read this book, and open your mind to the possibility of a much better health service system, and think how bad and how costly in money and health we get with or without Obamacare.
