Okay for a newbie, misleading in one place

I want to start off by saying that I'm an editor who has a friend in PR, and I have works independently published, so I had low expectations for this book. But there were so many reviewers saying that their books are bestsellers because of this book. I thought I would try it out.

WHAT I LIKE
The information on mind mapping and how to organize an outline from that. It was fairly practical information. I use mind maps, and I thought that the "system" translated to a good method of organization.

The other information was easy to understand, and there were fairly useful resources provided. I didn't see canva mentioned, but maybe I missed something. That's a major one for book design.

I liked some of the information in the Kindle Book Launch Blueprint chapter. I thought it was pretty intelligent to raise your price while doing a free promo so that readers have the perception of getting a higher value. I didn't even know you can manually stop your promos, so that was good to know, too.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
Lack of practical application information in marketing itself. I have a friend who's in PR; I *know* you need to build an e-mail list of potential buyers. What I don't know is how to go about doing that. He said to tell everybody about your book prior to the free launch--who, exactly? And how? No real practical information. There are TONS of sites where you can get your ebook listed free; why not link to some of those sites or give reasons why it's not a good idea to use them? Your launch isn't going to do anything if nobody knows about it. The only thing I saw is to hold a cover design "competition" where you upload different versions of a cover on social media and ask for votes. *Everybody* does that. Nobody pays attention to that anymore. *Maybe* if you offered a giveaway with it, that might get attention. But that's not even mentioned.

There is an awful lot of excess "information," mainly success stories.

WHAT I *HATED*
This is the reason I decided to write this review. As I said, I'm an editor. He mentions in one little spot that you should give your editor a turn-around time of 2 1/2 weeks. That it's "more than enough" time, failing to remind you that the book he's telling you to write in the writing section is around 30k words. He gives a time frame of *TWO DAYS* for an editor to do first-round content editing. With writers who know what they're doing, I can see that as reasonable for first round in a 30k "book." For new writers who have written an 80 to 100k novel, that's laughable. I can barely *read* a full-length novel in that time frame, let alone do first-round edits, even with an experienced author. If you're writing a 100,000 word novel, you can expect an actual copy editor (not a beta reader) to take approximately one week for first-round edits, if they are working on it full-time. If you are a new writer, it will take longer. Estimated time frames here are mostly true:

I don't charge their rate chart, but I've seen my time frames to be right around in line with this.

SUMMARY
There is some useful information that I'm going to re-read, but most of it is more of the same: email list, free books, cover design, editing...but the only practical information not being true marketing. This has good starter info on where to *find* an editor, cover designer, and some practical information on writing. It's okay for $0.99. If it would have cost one dollar more, I would have returned it.

For anyone more interested in the marketing side, which was the entire reason I bought this book, Your First 1000 Copies by Tim Grahl has much more practical information and is similar in marketing content.

THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO WRITING, PUBLISHING AND MARKETING YOUR NEXT BESTSELLER!

Having read a ton of books on “How to Write an Ebook”, over the past couple of yearsI gave it a rest for awhile because they all started to sound the same, and usually gave out the same formula for writing an ebook that I could recite without thinking about it.

That was when I came across “Book Launch” by Chandler Bolt. What intrigued me was, this book was different. A lot different. It didn’t follow the usual formula for writing, publishing and marketing. A lot of books out there make “suggestions” to do this and that, but still leave you with a lot of guess work. And when you have to guess the process, as a writer you make mistakes. And mistakes cost sales and valued customers.

Book Launch leaves no stone unturned. The process that is introduced here is solid. There is no fluff and it doesn’t leave you wondering what to do next. It tells you what to do, and if you do anything different, you will struggle to succeed at the book writing and publishing business. It delivers what it promises from the beginning, and as I am now using the process discussed in this book, it is a definitive approach to publishing your book FAST and doing it RIGHT.

The best parts of this book are:
1. It uses an 8-step method to craft a compelling introduction; this is something that most authors get wrong. If you follow this 8 step approach, you won’t have to worry about getting it wrong.
2. It utilizes a MINDMAP-OUTLINE-WRITE approach that is so simple to follow anyone can create the structure of their book in a matter of hours.
3. There is a 7 Step process Chandler uses for writing your book that breaks down the process into a simple plan for successfully finishing within 30 days the rough draft.
4. Shows authors HOW to create a winning title. Again, most people get this wrong and craft titles that are not effective or attractive. Book Launch shows you how to craft a compelling title that SELLS.
5. Introduces the 3-Step Verbal Read Through which is an essential part of the process BEFORE the editor gets it;
6. How To Find And Editor: Getting a good editor can be hard work; But the author provides some serious, no fluff tips to getting an editor and keeping the editing process concise and tight to meet the publishing deadline.

Book Launch isn’t just a book you should have, it is a book you NEED if you are serious about writing and publishing a book that SELLS, is ATTRACTIVE to buyers, and uses a simple-to-follow process that makes most other methods look outdated.

I Highly recommended this book for newbies or anyone looking to take your publishing career to the next level!

Debunking myths around writing books - GREAT

Engaging voice and compelling chapters, my only gripe is the cut-price approach to editing and cover design. This approach can work with a 15,000-word non-fiction book - to give your editor 2.5 weeks to turnaround three rounds of edits for insanely low rates - but for fiction authors and anyone with a lengthy book to edit this advice is misleading or may cause some communication meltdowns between an author and their editor. Sure, you can get editors on oDesk etc for $0.005/word but the quality will be missing.

I also noticed the screenshot of The Productive Person's meteoric rise to the top of the New Releases chart when it was released showed it had about 68 reviews already! (And the price wasn't $0.99, it was $3.99.) Reviews and getting them isn't covered - how did they get so many reviews in that opening release window? Phenomenal. Did their 124 subscribers on their mailing list write them all?

It left me with the feeling that not all was revealed, but I dig the overall system. There is a lot of helpful information in here. And the debunking of myths around writing books is well worth the book's price.
