Diamond-Cut Abs: How to Engineer The Ultimate Six-Pack--Minimalist Methods for Maximal Results, by Danny Kavadlo

Are you dissatisfied with your abs? Does it seem a distant dream for you to own a rock-solid center? Can you only hanker in vain for the chiseled magnificence of a Greek statue? Have you given up on owning the tensile functionality and explosive power of a cage-fighter’s core?
According to Danny Kavadlo, training your abs is a whole-life endeavor. It’s about right eating, right drinking, right rest, right practice, right exercise at the right time, right motivation, right inspiration, right attitude and right lifestyle. If you don’t have that righteous set of abs in place, it’s because you have failed in one or more of these areas.
With his 25-plus years of rugged research and extreme physical dedication into every dimension of what it takes to earn world-class abs, Danny Kavadlo is a modern-day master of the art. It’s all here: over 50 of the best-ever exercises to develop the abs—from beginner to superman level—inspirational photos, no BS straight talk on nutrition and lifestyle factors and clear-cut instructions on what to do, when. Supply the grit, follow the program and you simply cannot fail but to build a monstrous mid-section.
In our culture, Abs are the Measure of a Man. To quit on your abs is to quit on your masculinity—like it or not. Diamond-Cut Abs gives you the complete, whole-life program you need to reassert yourself and reestablish your respect as a true physical specimen—with a thunderous six-pack to prove it.
“Diamond-Cut Abs condenses decades of agonizing lessons and insight into the best book on ab-training ever written. Hands down.”—PAUL WADE, author of Convict Conditioning
“Danny has done it again! Diamond-Cut Abs is a no-nonsense, results driven approach that delivers all the goods on abs. Nutrition, training and progression are all included, tattoos optional!”—ROBB WOLF, author of The Paleo Solution
“There are a lot of abs books and products promising a six-pack. What sets Danny's book apart is the realistic and reasonable first section of the book… His insights into nutrition are so simple and sound, there is a moment you wish this book was a stand alone dieting book.”—DAN JOHN, author of Never Let Go
"As soon as I received Diamond-Cut Abs, I flipped to the table of contents. Amazingly I found what I have been fruitlessly looking for in ab books for decades: 66 pages dedicated to NUTRITION. Kavadlo passed his second Marty audition by not echoing all the bankrupt politically-correct, lock-step, mainstream nutritional commandments. When Dan starts riffing about eating like a horse, eating ample amounts of red meat, shellfish and the divine pig meat (along with all kinds any types of nutrient-dense food), I knew I had to give my first ever ab book endorsement. When he noted that he drank whiskey while getting his abs into his all time best shape, it sealed the deal for me. Oh, and the ab exercises are excellent.”—MARTY GALLAGHER, 3-Time Powerlifting Champion, Author of The Purposeful Primitive
"Danny Kavadlo's book might be titled 'Diamond-Cut Abs' but the truth is that it goes way BEYOND just ab training. Danny has actually created a guide to Physical Culture & LIVING healthy. The traditional fitness industry has gone astray from what the body truly needs. Since 1989, I've read a ton of abs-related books—and they don't scratch the surface of what's inside Danny's masterpiece. From powerful nutrition methods to training the entire body with a holistic approach, Diamond-Cut Abs is a vital addition to anyone's library. I LOVE it!”—ZACH EVEN-ESH, author of The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning
“Danny's new book definitely hits the mark. Diamond-Cut Abs outlines pretty much everything you'd ever need to know about building the best midsection your genetic potential allows for and without the need for any equipment. Keep up the great work, Danny!"—BJ GADDOUR, CSCS, author of Men's Health Your Body is Your Barbell

Terrific read!!!
By Dave R.
Diamond Cut Abs is a terrific book because it cuts against the grain of the typical fitness industry bulls*** that profits off the ignorance of customers. Credibility matters and that credibility does not have to come from a formal education. One look at the picture on the cover as well as the multitude of pictures taken at different times shows a man dedicated to the lifestyle he discusses throughout the 207 pages of the book.

I say lifestyle because the first two sections of the book address Danny's personal journey and nutrition, both of which should be read over and over again in order for it to sink in. Personally, as someone that has only recently found fitness again, it's important for me to learn from as much as others as I can, especially from people that have had success. It's even more important to me to learn from those people who share similar interests to me. Without getting too much into the details on this, the key takeaway in that chapter, at least for me, is that many of the same roadblocks he encountered and overcame are identical to the things that I've dealt with (or deal with) on my own journey.

The section on nutrition is awesome, stressing on the "practical over the theoretical" (p32). He doesn't worry about fat grams, macros, calorie counting or weight scales (unless it involves throwing them out) but rather wholesome and natural foods - nothing processed. Again, this is where his experience comes into play. While the information about proper eating wasn't necessarily new to me (it may be for others), it was the results he achieved eating in certain ways that convinced me to ditch the meat scales, spreadsheets and everything else I used to count macros and incorporate his approach in my diet.

The same common sense approach applies to weight loss. Ditch the scale and the supplements and focus on eating the right way. He has very interesting comments on fasting and suggests various levels of fasting for those that want to do it, ranging from the relatively simple to the extreme. That said, his stated goals of fasting, to "place an individual at a great starting point toward eating mindfully and healthfully" do not conflict with the overall goal of this section - providing readers with a nutritional blueprint that is sustainable. Too many diet and nutrition plans, especially those that call for high caloric deficits, are disasters waiting to happen. Trust me when I say to trust Danny on this.

The rest of the book focuses on training the abs, providing various exercises for different fitness levels, training programs, supplemental stretches, a core curriculum summarizing key bodyweight exercises (the squat, pull up, push up, etc.). Like the rest of the book, it should serve as a reference guide to come back to for ideas, workouts, movements, etc. There are plenty of exercises in the book to keep me entertained for a very long time and Danny does a good job providing readers with ways to gauge their own progression so they know when best to move on to the next exercise. For Danny, training abs is a lot like voting in Chicago - "train early, train often" (at least the latter part is applicable).

As someone that is serious about my own fitness and has been looking for ways and ideas to improve abdominal strength, I am grateful to Danny for this book. It's obvious that a lot of time, care and energy went into it to make it a valuable resource, one that I will now constantly refer to throughout my own journey. To close, I've only recently taken to calisthenics. It has done wonders for me, and I have a number of people from the NYC bar world to thank for that. Today, I can add another name to my list of influences. Thanks Danny.

This book should be mandatory in schools! There is so much wisdom that calling it an Abs-Book would not come even close

======

Today I have finished this brilliant book „Diamond Abs“ from Danny Kavadlo. The first day I got it I was just reading the intro and got straight to the exercises, I just had to try out the new ones. I admit I am a bad reader and on some days I am too active to keep calm and read. Luckily this a good book for active people ;-). In the summer I made my Progressive Calisthenics Certification in Munich with Danny and his equally fantastical brother Al. So I was pretty sure that they would forgive me if it was „down to action“ for me on that first day.
I just had to try some of the „new“ moves. What I love about Calisthenics and training in general that there is always something new to discover. For me that is more a Do / Zen approach to physical activities, which is part of my every day life. So I was glad to find in the exercises section „solid, old friends“ that I know to be reliable buddies when it comes down to effective workout-business. And I was really happy to discover even new exercises, „twists“ and clever variations that where new to me. Be careful when you read a book from Danny it leaves you often with a mixed feeling of „Yeah! He is so much right on the spot!“ and a „why have I not thought of this before“.

As I had the pleasure and honor to meet Dany in person - I always heard his voice in my head while reading the book. Very strange for me. But as he is such a nice person this was even more rewarding than just reading a great book. Please forgive the way to long epilogue to a review.

This book is not just about exercises, not just a book about nutrition and how to eat in a sensible way, not just how to achieve a happier and healthier life-style.
It can help you to set things straight and put your view into perspective. Danny does not force his opinion onto the poor reader, but tells him in his unique way how things are related and that there is no single truth. Danny shows a way that one can walk. He points in the right direction and leaves enough room for everyone to have his now freedom of choices. So the right direction can become your own way. Just to get me right, that does not mean you can get a six-pack just by reading that book. You have to train hard and you will know when you f…ed it up. That ice-cream etc. have to be exceptions and are not meant for everyday.

So forgive me when I have to quote Henry Rollins — 'Knowledge without mileage equals bulls***.‘
Therefore I love the common sense and practical wisdom approach that is based on tons of personal experience.

Especially that he points out that the exercises in the book (great as they are), have to be part of the whole workout program and not to be seen as an exclusive workout.

This book so so much packed with knowledge that I promised myself to reread it in a couple of months, just to make sure that I get it all. Now as you read so far - just buy the book and read it.
Now after I read the ebook I am sure that I will get the physical copy as well. I am old fashioned and I really think that some books deserve to be printed and have to be owned. Not true for 98% of the books about fitness out there but this one belongs to this precious 2%.

You can take my word for it.

Great book on reaching the next level in abdominal muscle development and fitness.

I was not even aware this book existed until about 1.5 months ago. What a pleasant surprise this book has turned out to be for me. I was always interested in having nice washboard abs. I was in fairly good shape even before reading this book. However, my results had reached somewhat of a plateau until I found this book. The book gives very good advice about obtaining good looking abdominal muscles in a realistic manner. Danny Kavadlo does not make any crazy claims. He simply spells out in very good detail what one needs to do in order to possess the best possible abdominal fitness that an individual can obtain. The author covers nutrition, fasting, stretching and a vast variety of exercises for beginners, intermediate and advanced training. He makes it very clear that results will take time, require lots of discipline and hard work and also will vary from person to person. Danny Kavadlo, in my opinion, is a terrific motivator and trainer. His book has allowed me to already see amazing results in only a short time. I am very impressed by this book. I think that it is one of the finest fitness books that I have ever read. It is presented in a friendly but informative format. It is easy to read with many photographs and plenty of good tips laced with some humor. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to develop an attractive and fit abdomen and body. Bravo!!!
