It really is about ultrasound physics...

First, we have used this concise and understandable text in our cardiovascular technology program for some years, and recommend it for sonographers readying themselves for the registry exam. Dr. Edelman greatly improved this book in its 3rd edition, and now the 4th edition is better still: lots of colorful, useful graphics, very logical organization, and the addition of some patient-safety and medical ethics issues. The last section of the book is 639 multiple-choice questions, with answers and explanations. If you can deal with those, you're probably ready for the registry exam.
Second, in response to the rather fussy reviewer from Hawaii, those of us in this field who use ultrasound for diagnostic studies take an exam called "Physics" to obtain certification. The book is meant to help those people to prepare for that exam. Therefore, the title is pretty much right on the money.
I usually advise students (and others preparing for the exam) to use the Edelman text along with another ultrasound physics text, such as the Kremkau or Zagzebski, in order to nail all of the test-taker's blind spots, but this will get you a long way toward knowing what you need.
NOTE! Some rascals are selling older editions of this text for absurdly high prices, a practice that appears to be tolerated everywhere on the Amazon site. Get the 4rd edition, the green one, which is improved over the older ones, and brand new it will cost less than these grossly inflated prices. All respect to Sid Edelman, those are okay, but not collectors' items.

short, sweet, and concise

i've attended an edelman seminar. he's a fine teacher and has mastered the art of concision and snappy presentations. this old (1996) purple book goes into no more detail than needed to pass the RDMS exam. at the seminar, edelman said "you need to master these concepts; the seminar isn't magic. don't memorize them, KNOW them." the book functions the same way, especially if you work with the questions on each section, which are excellent.
he has just published the new very expanded version for $79 at [...] i'm sure it's good, but a whole sonography class at my school passed the RDMS board with the purple one.
if you want to find out how many pixels fit on the end of a pin, you could read the pegasus physics books. they are what my teacher had us get. we ALL (14 of us) hate them. my reason was that his writing style does not help me learn; that is the opinion of most of my classmates as well.
you ask sid edelman what time it is and he shows you his wristwatch. if you don't get it he quickly clarifies how to tell time. that's it.
