About the Author
James Peisker initially embarked on his culinary career when he was just 14 years old, working as a busboy in the diner that sat just across the street from his St. Louis home. After working his way up to a server, James was eager to continue his culinary education, so after graduating from high school, he spent time working in the kitchen at The Gatesway Home where the chefs taught him the foundations of his culinary knowledge. He competed with the American Culinary Federation State Junior Team during the short time he spent at Forest Park Community College, an experience which eventually inspired him to attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Immediately after graduating, he spent two weeks studying at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine in China, and soon made his way back to St. Louis where he took charge of the city's culinary scene.James became the roundsman at Old Warson Country Club and later became the sous chef at Niche, where he took charge of the restaurant's whole animal butchering and really found a passion for the craft. He ultimately did a stage at The Butcher and Larder in Chicago and now teaches our Porter Road Butchers everything he knows.On the off chance that James isn't working at the butcher shop, he can be found reading informational books about food, drinking plenty of whiskey, cooking elaborate meals for his wife, or pretending he is a teapot.Chris Carter, a Nashville native who was born and raised in Hendersonville, made his entree into the restaurant industry when he was in high school working as a busboy. After graduating from Hendersonville High, he attended the University of Memphis where he graduated with a degree in Hospitality Management. Throughout his time in college Chris did promotions for a local radio station and additionally worked in restaurants both as a bartender and a server before leaving Memphis in pursuit of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona.While studying the culinary arts, Chris elected to continue his undergraduate education, majoring in Culinary Management. During school he took his first kitchen job as the sous chef at Dragon Fly Cafe, but switched gears a year and a half later, working in both Atlas Bistro and Twisted Rose Winery and Eatery, further opening his eyes to the culinary arts.It was after culinary school however, working at Flemings Steakhouse, where Chris really mastered the art of grilling meats and came to understand and appreciate high quality meat. In 2009 he moved back to Nashville and took a job at the Capital Grille where he met James and jump-started their business partnership.While not driving all over the region to pick up animals or serving our customers in the shop, Chris enjoys going to a good concert, drinking a few cold beers while fishing, roaming the aisles of Bass Pro Shop out at Opry Mills and occasionally finds his center in a sweaty hot yoga class--you ought to see this guy's headstand.

Fabulous book with great information and wonderful photos. This book is fun to read even if you never have plans to make any sausages. The writing is clear, with injections of humor and wit that make it more interesting to read. Who knew there was so much to sausage making?!?! There are lots of recipes as well as clear instructions on how to make your own links. The book is well laid out and easy to understand with a glance at the table of contents. Photos further help to instruct on the process through out. As much of a pleasure to look at as it is to read!

Hoshin Kanri, the big picture

Those who will find value in this book are those who are looking for change. That change must start from the top, and what better book to help initiate the movement. This book is a great book to start with for anybody interested in Hoshin Kanri. I recommend starting with this book to survey the big picture and then dive deeper into some of the tools if necessary. Cudney does a great job with just enough words and details to communicate the theme without dragging the reader into too many details. The CD with the included templates is a nice bonus, too. In the future I plan to use this book as a training tool and quick reference guide. I believe its best use is as a primer for upper management, since the material flows quickly and the case study presents a sample of application.

Easy to Understand Intro To Economics Book

This book is very clear language wise and easy to understand. It explains a lot of things that you may or may not find interesting about economics.

This was a purchase for my college economics class and very pleased with the direction the author took. I was able to make sense of everything I needed to read.

While I would love to go into more detail, there isn't much I can offer for advice besides it's a easy/light introducing you into the world of economics.

As of February 2013, this book is 100-150 used or new, I wouldn't recommend purchasing it unless you need it. I rated solely on the book itself too.

Easy to understand the basics

I've never taken an economics class and so I was a little worried that the text might be over my head, but I was surprised by the easy to understand format of this book. The authors use the text along with examples and visual graphs to explain this sometimes complex subject making it easy and super user friendly. I would recomend this book for anyone interested in understanding the basics of Economics.

I ordered this book for an Intro to Economics class, As far as the reading goes, I like it so far. It's easy to read and understand without a professor. As far as the seller goes, it came on time, came in good condition, the only thing that disappointed me was that the pages are cream/yellowed a little bit but i am pretty sure it just has to do with the date of the book.

Good content but used with caution

The previous poster said the book is outdated which I agree but only to the Eclipse setup/GUI-Layout part. The Eclipse/ADT is doing intermittently updates breaking old codes, which are not difficult to fix if you are googling solutions from internet. Ch4:Tip-Calculators is a little bit tedious but it is a good practice for beginners (for patience and discreet). Ch5:the broken code in Twitter-search is an easy fix if you know the HTTP query syntax. Ch6-8: three games are good examples for learning graphics/gaming in Android but they are not object-oriented, a pity. Ch9-10: a simple sketching program and an address book app. Ch10:Route tracker using Google API which is a good practice for knowing the details of using Google maps. Ch11-12:Slideshow apps which delve into media API for playing audio/video and taking pictures.
All in all, this book is good, and could be used as a textbook under the condition that the instructor must read the content and test/fix all programs before conducting teaching. This book is also beneficial to experienced programmers coming to Android for the first time. However, this book is not for pure beginners.

Too far behind, no updates/errata

I chose this as a textbook for a new course I am teaching on Android. I trusted Deitel. No more. The step-by-step examples to setup an Android app are based on a much older version of the ADT. They not only don't work, but some of the techniques break the apps. For example, to change the layout, they have you delete the main.xml and create a new one. Much better in ADT 21 to use outline view to change layout.
The first app to build (Tip Calculator) has way too many fields to create. The second 'Favorite Twitter Search' example does not work, probably because twitter changed the API since the book was out.
I emailed Deitel in January with my issues, and have received no answer except that Paul was out of town. There is no 'errata' available, so I assume they no longer support this text.

If there were negative stars allowed...

This book is simply terrible. Other reviewers have mentioned that it is outdated, and I can cut them a little bit of slack for that, Android has been a fast-evolving OS and it doesn't take long for printed materials on the subject to become outdated. Knowing this, one would expect some sort of update from the publisher- the Twitter API change was not a huge deal, easy enough to adapt the example app over to the new API, but the Google maps API change rendered the RouteTracker app worthless and it should be the publishers responsibility to port their example code over to the new API and provide it on their site. In general the book did a very poor job of explaining what you were doing, just blocks of code with vague documentation. It looks like they are releasing a new version of this book which will probably contain all of the corrections and additions that should have been provided to anyone unlucky enough to buy the 1st edition, but if the history of support that they've shown for the 1st edition repeats the book will be an expensive paperweight in 6 months and you'll have to wait around for the 3rd edition.

Great book!

This book, second in the Demonata series, was a great follow-up to the amazing thriller of the 1st book. It delivers action, adventure and thrills as Kernel Fleck, a young boy, delves into the horrifying world of demons and Desciples (Demon hunters) to destroy the demons who stole his brother. I find this book a fantastic edition to the already thrilling Darren Shan collection of books. Buy it! (A warning: I am a BIG horror movie fan and I almost threw up from the bloody description, so be careful =)

Great Book

I think that this book was really good and a lot better than the last one. This book takes place before the last book did, and is a lot more exiteing than the other book. In this story, a town where a boy named Kernal is living is visited by a murderous demon. This demon comes through a window opened from his own universe and quickly starts tearing apart the gathered townsfolk. When this demon lays eyes on Kernal's baby brother, something odd happens. The demon runs up, grabs the baby, and runs back through the window. Willing to die to get his brother back, Kernal runs through the window after the demon and ends up in a whole different universe full of strange things and aweful horrors. Kernal finds a group of out of the ordinary people, teams up with them, and attempts to find the demon and get his brother back. He has no idea what he is getting into, otherwise he would have gone right back through the window into his own world.

Demonata #2: The Demon Thief

After reading the first book in Shan's Demonata series I could not wait till the next book was released. I was not disappointed when the book came out. The second book seems to take place some time preceding the first book as one of the characters from the first book is "in training." However, according to the sneak peek of the third book the first narroator comes back to continue his story. The second book does have some gore and sickening discriptions; the narrator even vomits at one point but turns this into an advantace (I'll let you see how for yourself). Overall a very intersting read. Can't wait for the next book.

The Dracula Professor has had a full and interesting life, bracketed by his colorful Romanian ancestors and by his successful children, some of whom returned to post-Communist Romania as entrepreneurs. About the Author
Radu R. Florescu was born in Bucharest, Romania and is an indirect descendant of Prince Dracula. He received both BA and MA degrees from Christ Church, Oxford University and a PhD from Indiana University. He is professor emeritus of history at Boston College and is author of The Struggle Against Russia in the Romanian Principalities and co-author of a half dozen books on the story of Vlad Tepes, the historical Dracula. With almost a dozen books to his name, his academic work has been the subject of documentaries by The History Channel, Discovery, Canadian Broadcasting, and other international networks.

Matei Cazacu received his BA and MA from the University of Bucharest and his PhD from the Sorbonne in Paris. He served as a senior researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris. Professor Cazacu is the author of a few dozen books including Dracula (Tallandier, Paris, 2004), Gilles de Rais, or Blue Beard, (Tallandier, Paris, 2005), and Frankenstein (with Professor Florescu, Tallandier, 2011). A medievalist, Professor Cazacu lectures throughout Europe and has appeared in documentaries on The History Channel and Romanian television.

Dracula and the Florescu family

This book is a fascinating genealogical history of a distinguished Romanian family, the Florescus, whose lives were intertwined with important historical events in Europe. The 600 year sweep of Florescu history includes recent events. Those interested in Baltic history will like this book. Those interested in genealogy will like this book. Ditto for those interested in the real or fictional Dracula. Highly recommended.

Deke Dickerson is a music historian and guitar sleuth who writes for Vintage Guitar, Guitar Player, and The Fretboard Journal. The Greatest Guitar Book Anywhere, Any Time

I'm not especially big on guitar books -- I've got a stack of 'em, I'll admit right now, but I sure as hell don't keep 'em out where people'll see 'em -- but this baby's an absolute wonder in every way. Much like the esteemed Deke Dickerson himself, this has oodles for everybody: gorgeous color pix for the guitar-porn dork, extensive technical insight for the techie dweeb, and great, untold behind-the-scenes performer stories for the drooling R&R/R&B/C&W fan. I fit into all three of those categories to varying extents, making this an absolute trifecta of excellence. An incredible bargain even above the list, and its current Amazon price is a steal on the Federal level. Amazing job, Deke, and hope there's more to come!

Great book for guitar lovers.

Bought this as a gift for my husband, and he is really enjoying it. Lots of good stories and photos, very entertaining and well written. Nice looking, well made book.

Deke's book is a treasure for ANY guitar afficiando!

I first saw Deke Dickerson in Green Bay, WI, slagging away at bar in a casino that had the stage right behind the backbar...you could sit on your ass at the bar, play the slots, drink and watch the band. Deke and his band were playing there, and a few yards away in the big hall was Brian Setzer's Orchestra doing their Xmas show.

Well, the treat of the evening wasn't Setzer, though his show was stunning and the musicianship first class. The treat was Deke and his band...masters of showmanship, entertainment, hillbilly/rockabilly hospitality and just plain down-to-earth fun.

I've been a huge fan ever since, and Mr. Dickerson has never disappointed. He's also one of the most affable, down to earth, ego-less performers you'll ever come across.

I received this book from my loving wife, autographed by Deke himself. Being a bit of a guitar geek myself, I absolutely loved all of the stories he shares in this book. One reviewer was critical in that he said that Deke 'manages to put himself in every story'. Well, this book IS his story, and he WAS in every one of them, in one way or another. There's no fabrication here, folks. This isn't a 'me me me' account. For one thing, Deke Dickerson literally has no ego. For another, his life has pretty much been a search for the holy grail of guitars, that grail being plural, not singular. His enthusiasm, love and devotion for the historic guitars and men who were formative in the development of electric guitars and sounds is plainly evident in each lovingly crafted story.

This book is a must own for any lover of guitars, especially for lovers of old, historic guitars. You can't go wrong with this one, folks. This is the one you leave out on the endtable. :D
